Pleasant Valley woman stole $42,000 in pension payments from dead mother: Comptroller
Dec 20, 2019
A Pleasant Valley woman stole nearly $42,000 from the state and local retirement system in pension payments for her dead mother, the Office of the New York State Comptroller said.
Bonnie Robertson, 63, failed to report her mother's death in order to collect pension payments starting in 2013, according to the office. She pleaded guilty to petit larceny and agreed to pay the amount in full.
Robertson pleaded guilty in July before the Stanford Town Court. She was sentenced to three years of probation.
"This was an egregious act," said state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli in a statement. "Ms. Robertson kept her mother's death a secret to steal her pension. She was caught and now much repay the $42,000 she stole from the state retirement system."
